The Significance of Xunzi¡¯s Theory of Jiebi(ú°øÌ)
— Focusing on the Xunzi¡¯s Theory of Human Nature and
Learning—

This study deals with an attempt to research starting from the theory
of nature of Xunzi, which interprets human nature, and points out the
intolerance of human language and perception through the analysis of the
¡°ú°øÌ¡± and the ¡°Þªä¨ì£í­¡± chapter of the Xunzi section. This study
examines the epistemology of Xunzi, and seeks to shed light on the
significance of ¡®Learning(ùÊÙþ)¡¯ and ¡®Education(ÎçëÀ)¡¯ as a way to
overcome the limitations of human nature and intolerance of language and
perception.
In the ¡°ú°øÌ¡± and ¡°Þªä¨ì£í­¡± chapter, this study reveals the perspective
of Xunzi who judged the philosophy of the era as ¡®covering[øÌ] of language
¡¯ and ¡®concelment[øÌ] of the mind¡¯. Then, based on this, the study
identifies the reason of the thought raising the problem of cognition and
the necessity of education, and through this work, the study reexamines
the characteristics and significance of Xunzi ideology, which attempted to
solve the limitations of human nature and perception through social and
ethical practice and education.
