국문초록

 순자의 본성론은 ‘성악설(性惡說)’이라고 하는 단편적인 이해로 인해 중국철학
사 내에서 줄 곧 오해와 비판을 받아왔다. 본 연구는 우선 『순자』 텍스트 가운데
인간의 본성에 대해 서술한 구절을 발췌·분석하고, 순자가 인간의 본성을 ‘성악
(性惡)’으로 파악하면서 규명하고자 것이 법과 제도로서의 ‘예(禮)’와 그러한 예
(禮)를 체화한 ‘성인(聖人)’이라고 하는 모범적인 인간상에 있었음에 주목한다.
순자는 「해폐」와 「비십이자」편을 통해 당대의 철학사를 법과 제도, 감정과 인식에
대해 치우친 경향성이 있다고 해석하고, 당대의 사람들이 ‘닫힌[蔽] 언어’와 ‘닫
힌[蔽] 마음’을 갖고 있음을 비판하였다. 이러한 비판은 그의 본성론에 기반한 것
으로 해석할 수 있다.순자는 인간이 그러한 ‘닫힘’에서 벗어나야[解蔽] 할 것을
주장하는데, 그가 지향하는 ‘탈은폐론[解蔽]’은 명료한 언어와 인식의 필요성, 그
리고 예(禮)와 법도를 선취한 성인 상(像)의 요청으로 드러난다. 이를 그의 본성
론과 학문관을 중심으로 재해석한다면, 다양한 개인이 함께 사는 사회에서 쟁탈을
해소하고 평화로운 사회를 만들 수 있는 교육의 역할로 재해석될 수 있을 것이다.

This study deals with an attempt to research starting from the theory
of nature of Xunzi, which interprets human nature, and points out the
intolerance of human language and perception through the analysis of the
“解蔽” and the “非十二子” chapter of the Xunzi section. This study
examines the epistemology of Xunzi, and seeks to shed light on the
significance of ‘Learning(學文)’ and ‘Education(敎育)’ as a way to
overcome the limitations of human nature and intolerance of language and
perception.
In the “解蔽” and “非十二子” chapter, this study reveals the perspective
of Xunzi who judged the philosophy of the era as ‘covering[蔽] of language
’ and ‘concelment[蔽] of the mind’. Then, based on this, the study
identifies the reason of the thought raising the problem of cognition and
the necessity of education, and through this work, the study reexamines
the characteristics and significance of Xunzi ideology, which attempted to
solve the limitations of human nature and perception through social and
ethical practice and education.
