Diversity Agenda in Higher Education: Institutionalization and
the Implications for Educational Adoption

  Diversity has gained the status of the keyword of university innovation worldwide. The same is true in Korean universities. The present article, noting that diversity has not been used as a practical concept in policy making and legal enforcement in the higher education in Korea, preliminarily attempts to analyze the process of framing and institutionalizing diversity policies in overseas universities and the aspects of educational adoption and implementation of them and then to speculate its implications on Korean universities. It is difficult to define diversity in university, and, as it is, it is not an easy task to measure its impacts of diversity on university. As diversity is a comprehensive concept as such, it is hard even to set the boundary of the study. The present article analyzes the process of institutionalization of diversity policies in American universities, and further investigates its educational adoption in terms of educational benefits and diversity education. The present study can possibly motivate a more active discussion of the values of diversity in university and its research methodologies.
