A Study on the Transition of Liberal Education Ideology and System in European Universities

  This paper is a review of the transition in the ideology of liberal education and the system pursued by Western European universities. The common tasks for liberal education in the modern European universities centered on humanities such as philosophy, literature, and theology. The university education was mainly aimed at the development and preservation of nation state, national culture and ethnic language. But in the era of highly modernized postmodern, universities can not maintain the content of pre-modern liberal education according to the power of capital and the development of science. After the French student protest in 1968, In European universities, the epic of science and technology has become the center of the university¡¯s literature and theology. The liberal education of the university should overcome the unreasonable conditions and create an innovative paradigm of the future university with the ideology and system of fusion that the 21st century scientific era demands.
