신자유주의는 ‘청춘’의 내면을 어떻게 바꿔놓았나?

21세기 한국의 대학은 ‘신자유주의’의 인해 파행을 거듭하고 있다. 오늘날 대학은 근대적인 지식 생산의 역할은 물론 기능적인 전문인, 성숙한 시민을 양성하는 데도 실패하고 있다. 고도정보사회와 금융자본주의로 상징되는 신자유주의는 경제에 대한 패러다임을 송두리째 바꿔놓았고, 인류사적 문제로 떠오르고 있는 광범위한 실업 문제는 대학의 자율성을 심각하게 훼손하고 있다. 이 논문은 이러한 사회의 변화가 대학은 물론 청년 세대의 내면에 불러온 변화를 ‘기업가적 자아’, ‘통치성’, ‘자기계발 담론’, ‘능력주의’, ‘경쟁주의’ 등을 중심으로 고찰했다. 그리고 이 변화를 지시하는 개념들이 궁극적으로 근대 사회가 합의했던 가치들을 훼손하고 있음을 논증하려 한다. 아울러 이러한 가치의 훼손에 대응하기 위해 교양교육이 나아가야 할 방향과, 실험가능한 대안을 제안하고자 한다.

How Neo-Liberalism Changed the Inner Side of ‘Youth’?

Korean universities in the 21st century are repeatedly crippled by ‘neo-liberalism’. Universities today fail not only ingenerating modern knowledge, but also incultivating functional experts and mature citizens. Neo-liberalism, which is symbolized by advanced information society and financial capitalism, completely changed the paradigm of economy. Wide-rangingu nemployment issue that arises as a problem in human history is severely damaging the autonomy of universities. This paper examines the impact of such social change on universities as well as on the inner side of youth generation by focusing on the ‘entrepreneurial ego’, ‘governmentality’, ‘self-development discourse’, ‘meritocracy’, and ‘competitive ideology’. The paper attempts to demonstrate that these concepts that represent the change ultimately damage the values that the modern society agreed on. The study presents a direction for cultural education in response to the damage of these values and suggests a testable alternative.
