‘인문학’이라는 ‘사건’, ‘불가능성’의 ‘탈구축’에 바쳐진 ‘신앙 고백’

『조건 없는 대학Université sans condition』에서 데리다는 ‘도래할 대학’(venir à)을 상정한다. 데리다는 “대학은 분명 진리를 공언하고 직업으로 합니다”(Université sans doute professe la vérité)라고 지적한다. 데리다는 ‘교수하다’(professer)는 무언가를 확인하고 확정짓는 진위적 발화(speech acts constatifs)가 아니라, 수행적 발화(speech acts performatifs), 즉 참여(engagement)와 책임(responsabilité)를 전제하는 용어였다는 사실을 드러낸다. 진위적 발화와 수행적 발화의 구분을 데리다는 화용론자 오스틴에게서 빌려와 대학과 관련된 어휘들을 분석하는 데 활용하였다. 대학은 이렇게 수행적 발화를 통해 “모든 것을 공적으로 말할 권리”를 행사하는 공간이며,진리에 관련하여 근본적인 물음들을 제기하고, 토론을 하고 사유를 갱신하는 곳이다. 데리다는 ‘공적으로’(publiquement)이라는 근거를 칸트의 대학론에서 취해와 발전시키며, “모든 것을 말할 권리”(droit de tout dire)는 블랑쇼에서 영감을 받아 대학과 연관지어 사유의 폭을 넓혔다. 데리다는 진리와 진리 주위로 개진된 사유가 단일하게 해석되면 곤란하다며, 오히려 ‘탈구축’(déconstruction)을 통해 제기되는 수행적 물음들을 통해 갱신되어야 한다고 말한다. 데리다에게 대학은 ‘탈구축하는’ 물음들을 생산하는 공간이자, 오로지 ‘도래할’(à venir)의 형태 속에서 제 물음과 실천을 산출해내는, 특권화된 장소인 것이다. 진리가 생성되는 장소, 사건이 타진되는 장소가 대학이며, 이를 위한 실천적ㆍ수행적 임무는 문학과 철학을 위시한 ‘인문학(les Humanités)’을 중심으로 진행되어야 한다. ‘조건 없는 대학’은 데리다에게 “« 인문학 » 덕분에, 내일 일어날 수도 있는 것”을 다루는 공간이며, 데리다는 대학에서 수행할 인문학을 크게 일곱 가지로 제시하였다.

Les Humanités as an event, la professsion to the déconstruction of the impossible
- About Jacques Derrida’s University Without Condition

In his book “University without condition” Derrida imagines the ‘University to come’. He points out that “the university certainly professes the truth” (“l'Université sans doute professe la vérité”). According to Derrida ‘to profess’ is not to perform constative speech acts that verify and confirm but performative speech acts ; that is to say that professing implies involvement and responsibility. Derrida borrows the distinction between constative and performative speech acts to Austin’s pragmatic approach and uses it to analyze the vocabulary associated with university. College or university is a place to exercise “the right to say everything in public” through performative utterance ; it is where fundamental questions in relation to the truth are raised, discussed and updated. Here Derrida developed the idea of “public” on the basis of the University theory of Kant, while the “right to say everything”(“droit de tout dire”) is inspired by Blanchot and extended to the university. Derrida says that we should not try to give a single interpretation of the truth and its surroundings, but instead we should update the performative questions posed by ‘deconstruction’. Derrida considers University as a place where ‘deconstructing’ questions are produced, a privileged place capable of bringing forth questioning and achievement within its being ‘to come’(“à venir”). University is the place where truth is created, where events are fathomed, and its practical and performative tasks must be carried out around the “Humanities”(“les Humanités”) which start with literature and philosophy. Derrida holds the “University without condition” as the space dealing with “what can happen tomorrow thanks to the Humanities”, and he suggests seven branches of these Humanities to be conducted within this University to come.
