세계시민교육이란 무엇인가?

이 글은 21세기 지구촌 사회를 맞아 떠오르고 있는 세계시민교육에 대해 전반적으로 소개하는 글이다. 먼저 세계시민교육의 등장과 전개과정을 소개하고, 이어서 세계시민교육이 등장하게 된 역사적 배경과 그 필요성을 살펴본 후 세계시민교육의 뜻, 유네스코가 제시한 세 가지 핵심 역량, 세계시민교육의 교육방법론 핵심 원칙, 교육 주제, 다양한 교수학습 방법 유형, 세계시민교육이 추구하는 궁극적 인간상등을 자세히 존하고, 끝으로 그 동안 유네스코와 아태국제이해교육원의 기여와 활동, 그리고 한국의 세계시민교육 현황을 담고 있다.

What Is Global Citizenship Education?

This article introduces the newly emerging theme of Global Citizenship Education (GEFI) initiated by UN Global Education First Initiative(GEFI) in 2012. It covers the historical background, development, definition, core competencies, key pedagogical principles of GCED, and discusses ultimate goal of human characteristics. In addition, it explains the role and function of UNESCO and Asia Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) as well as current situation of GCED in korea. This article aspires to promote the discussion of GCED in Korea.
