교양교육에서의 도덕교육이 바람직한 방향

오늘날 우리의 대학교육은 전문직업인을 양성하는 전공교육에 경도되어, 폭넓은 교양을 쌓고 인격적 가치를 실현할 수 있는 전인(全人)을 길러내야 한다는 본래의 목적에서 멀어졌다는 지적을 받는다. 이러한 전인 양성의 목적과 긴밀히 연관된 교육은 교양교육이며, 그것의 올바른 중심은 바로 도덕교육이다. 대학 교양교육에서 현실적으로 가능하고 필요한 도덕교육은, 특정 덕목과 가치의 전수에 초점을 둔 전통적 인성교육과 달리, 도덕적 추론역량의 발달에 초점을 두어야 한다. 이러한 도덕적 추론역량의 발달은 세 가지 영역, (1) 개인윤리, (2) 사회윤리, (3) 직업윤리 영역 모두에서 고르게 이루어져야 한다. 더 나아가 이 세 영역과 관련된 도덕교육은 상호 긴밀히 연결되어야 하고, 따라서 그것은 학제적 성격을 가지는 것이 바람직하다.

Desirable Direction of Moral Education in Liberal Education

Today, our college education is criticized as being away from its original purpose of producing a whole person who can build a broad culture and realize personal value. Education that is closely related to the purpose of this kind of holistic education is liberal education, and its proper center should be moral education. Unlike traditional character education, which has focused on the transfer of particular virtues and values, the moral education that is practicable and necessary in college liberal education should put the stress on the development of moral reasoning capacity. Such development of moral reasoning capacity should be done evenly in all of the following three areas: (1) individual ethics, (2) social ethics, and occupational ethics. Furthermore, the moral education associated with these three areas must be closely linked to one another, so it is desirable to have an interdisciplinary nature.
